11th Annual Minnow Fund Event at Leesville Lake Results

We were very fortunate to have fantastic fishing conditions for our 2023 Minnow Fund Event held on Leesville Lake this past Saturday.  30 anglers came out to hunt for a Leesville monster muskie while helping to raise money to feed all the future giants in our hatcheries.  We received 17 fish submissions over 30″ and Brad Evans landed the biggest fish of the day with a 44″ Huskie Muskie!  Brad was awarded the $150 Big Fish cash pot, but he only asked to have his 2024 club membership be paid for and then very generously donated the rest of his winnings back to the Minnow Fund!  Brad will also be presented with a first-place plaque at our awards banquet in February 2024.  Congratulations Brad and thank you again for your very generous donation!

Great job to the following anglers who also caught and submitted fish during the event:

Brad Evans – 44″ and 38″

Alex Turner – 43″, 39″, and 35″

Dave White – 40.75″, 37″, and 35.75″

Gary Andreis – 40.25″ and 37.5″

David Simmons – 39″ and 34″

Tim Smith – 38.5″ and 36.5″

Derek Halas – 38″ and 33″

Gordon Lynn – 33″

After a full day of fishing, hungry anglers gathered at Leesville South Fork Marina to share fish stories over a tasty meal.  The fine folks at the South Fork Marina remained open late for us and made sure we were well fed with delicious sausage hoagies and hot dogs with all sorts of toppings, plus sides and beverages.  Next time you visit Leesville Lake you should definitely stop in the South Fork Marina for tasty eats, drinks, muskie baits, and other supplies in their charming setting.

At the end of the day, this event is all about raising funds to feed the future generations of Ohio muskies, and we succeeded in raising $825 to be donated to the Minnow Fund!  Portions of entry fees from every OHMC tournament are donated to the Minnow Fund, plus any additional donations are welcome and greatly appreciated.  The price of minnows to feed developing muskies in our hatcheries has gone way up, and these Minnow Fund contributions are more important now than ever.  Thank you to everyone who came out for this event and to Leesville South Fork Marina for hosting our post-tournament check-in.  Be sure to mark your calendars now for our final tournament of the year on Saturday October 21st at West Branch Reservoir.

11th Annual Minnow Fund Event at Leesville Lake September 9th

Now that Fall is just around the corner, so is our 11th Annual Minnow Fund event held at Leesville Lake on Saturday, September 9th.  Leesville Lake is the home of Ohio’s muskellunge broodstock from which eggs are collected every Spring to be raised in our hatcheries until they are ready to be stocked back into the 9 muskie program lakes throughout the state.  We invite you to join us on this beautiful lake for a fun day of muskie fishing while raising money to help feed all the future giants in our hatcheries.

What’s better than a day filled with muskie fishing, warm food, and great conversation?!  Keith from South Fork Marina has generously offered to keep the restaurant open for our fish check-in.  OHMC would also like to offer each registered angler a $5 credit towards any food purchase.  So, please join us and support our awesome sponsor, South Fork Marina, and share some fish stories with other like-minded anglers.

This is a single day event which will run from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday.  The angler who submits the longest musky of the tournament will be declared the winner.  The 1st place winner and any ties will receive trophies at our 2024 Banquet.  The winner of the Big Fish pool will be based on the largest fish turned in amongst all Big Fish pool entrants and will receive all Big Fish pool money.  Ties will not be broken; the prize pot will be split evenly amongst tied entrants.  All fish must be submitted to the Tournament Director by 6:00 pm at the South Fork Marina Restaurant Deck or via the cell phone number provided the night before the event.

MAIN EVENT RESULTS AND 2023 GRAND PRIZE WINNER

What a beautiful weekend for a two-day muskie tournament on Piedmont Lake! We had 41 anglers hit the water in search of some Ohio giants. 20 fish were submitted with Phil Jarvis catching the biggest one of all measuring in at 45.5” to just edge out Mike Ayers’ 45.25” muskie. Phil took home a cool $200 cash for winning the Big Fish pot. Young Kenna Harmon came prepared to take on Goliath and showed us grown-ups how it’s done as she put a 39.25” and a 39” muskie in the boat to claim 1st place in the Main Event! Dave White also landed two muskies, (38.75” and 33”), to take 2nd place. Congrats to Kenna and Dave who will be awarded plaques at this year’s OHMC banquet.

Also catching fish; Brad Evans 33”, 33”, and 31”, Donnie Gutshall 42.75”, Jeff Ferjutz 41.25”, Scott Donohew 40.25”, Jerry Rice 39.25”, Rick Thorp 37.75”, Tyler Lynn 36.75”, Chris Truax 33”, Gordon Lynn 32.5”, Derek Halas 31”, Richard Daniels 30.5”, and Jessie Wolford 30.5”. Great job to all who put fish on the board this weekend! We would love to share any additional pics of your catches and you can send them to us on our social media accounts.

But…it wasn’t just a weekend of fishing. Around 20 anglers joined around the grill Saturday afternoon to share fish stories and a perfectly cooked shore lunch. Jerry surprised us all with not just his lure making skills, but his grilling skills as well. Thanks for jumping in there and running the grill, Chef Jerry, and thanks to everyone else that helped set up, tear down, and those that brought side dishes.

The Grand Prize Raffle was also drawn during the luncheon. Congratulations to Carlton C for winning a 1 week stay in the North Fork Marina Studio cabin, 1-day guided fishing trip with Ohio Muskie Guide Service, custom rod by Charles Alexander, Shimano Tranx reel, Muskie Bumper measuring board, and a tackle box full of muskie baits.

Thanks to all who attended and be sure to mark your calendars now for our next event at Leesville Lake on Saturday September 9th.

53rd ANNUAL MAIN EVENT AT PIEDMONT LAKE JUNE 10th AND 11th

It’s that time of the year again – a weekend of chasing giant muskies, gathering for a shore lunch and comradery, and the annual OHMC Grand Prize Raffle drawing!  Our ‘Main Event’ will be held June 10th though June 11th on Piedmont Lake.  This is a two-day event and will run from 5:30 AM Saturday through 2:00 PM Sunday.  All fish must be turned in to the Tournament Director by 3:00 PM Sunday via text message (cell phone number provided the night before the event), or in person at the Reynolds Ramp parking lot.

Scoring will be based on the points system with each fish 30” or greater getting 4 points for the fish and additional points for every inch over 30”.   For example, a 42.5” fish would earn 4 points plus 12.5 points for a total of 16.5 points.  The winner will be the highest total points for the weekend. First and second place will receive trophies at the 2024 banquet.

Back by popular demand, OHMC will be hosting a shore lunch on Saturday at 1:00 PM.  We plan to have hotdogs and hamburgers and welcome any side dishes.  Drinks will not be provided.   When registering, please mark if you plan to attend the shore lunch and if you will have any guests to ensure OHMC provides enough food for everyone.  Lunch will be provided at Reynolds Ramp but is subject to change.

The entry fee will be $20 with a $5 big fish entry pool.   Proceeds of this event will help fund the OHMC’s contribution to the Minnow Fund.

Ice Breaker Results

The water was dirty, the wind was brutal, but that did not stop a select few from braving the day in search of that 57” monster living within the depths of Salt Fork Lake.  All it takes is just one more cast or one slight adjustment to your trolling pattern to land your next personal best.

Water was covered, shores were casted to, bait was searched for, but the fish just did not want to cooperate.  It wasn’t for the lack of trying, though.  While no fish were caught, the Minnow Fund did receive a new donation of $105, thanks to the Big Fish Pool.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the next event.
