Results from Muskie Munch

What a beautiful October day.  Definitely started cool with some heavy fog but once the sun did its magic, we had calm waters and warm temperatures.  Twenty anglers signed up for the one day tournament where the largest fish wins.  A total of 13 fish were caught with the winner coming down to a difference of 0.5 inches.  August Horvath had a great day catching his personal best of 44″ early then topping that with a really nice 46″ fish.  However Ray Elkins, guided by Elmer McClure, was able to land a chunky 46.5″ beauty.  In addition to Ray and August’s fish, Elmer McClure got a 32″, Ray Elkins also got a 41.5″ and 34″, David White landed a 41.5″, 38.5″, 36″ and 34″, Mike Cline 33.5″, Scott Donahew 34″ and Jason Chalmers 32″.

Tim Smith and I had a great day introducing Brian and Keith from Cleveland Fishing Company to muskie fishing.  We were not able to get a fish in the boat for them but they did have the experience of two hits but no hookups.  In both cases, muskies ripped new bulldawgs to show their presence.

For all of us who “Fish the Land”, Cleveland Fishing Company has fantastic apparel to wear proudly as we catch those Ohio muskies.  Check out their website:  https://clevelandfishingco.com/    Their clothes, hats and sun scarves are very high quality.  They also have a steelhead contest going on with our very own Brownie  Joe Thomas.

Muskie Munch at Piedmont

Tournament fishing hours will be from 7:30 am to 5 pm.  All fish need to be turned in by 5:30 pm also at the Piedmont Marina parking lot.  Entry fee is $15 with an optional big fish pool of $5.

Minnow Fund Outing Results

Two beautiful days greeted 37 anglers at Pymatuning Lake this past weekend for the outing to support the Minnow Fund.  Friday night Tim Smith and Phil Ringenbach cooked up perfectly cooked walleye and freshly cut french fries to a gathering of about 25 anglers.  A few beers might have been consumed also.  Saturday morning , final sign up was at the Duck N Drake who provided fresh coffee and a nice donation in support of the Minnow Fund.   Pymatuning Lake gave up some of her fish on Saturday, with anglers catching 9 fish for the day, with one boat getting a triple.  Saturday evening, Tim Smith and Jerry Rice cooked up hamburgers and hotdogs for a hungry crew, who went above and beyond supporting the raffles of a lure board, rod and reel and 50/50 prize.

Sunday was another great day, with 7 fish caught by 2 pm.  The final results were announced at 2:30 at the Duck N Drake with big fish being won by Dave Rankin with a 45″ tank.  For the tournament, Paul Anderson won with two fish, a 36″ and 43.75″ and second place was captured by Bob Basic with a 37.5″ and 38″. Here are the remaining fish caught:

Jerry Rice 39″, Jeff Ferjutz 35.5″ and 38.75″, Fred Lederer 38.5″, Matt Clark 32″, Jeff Dvorak 35.5″, Joe Tenebria 35.5″, Al Dawes 30″, Russ Roberts 37″ and 37″ and Phil Cummings 40″.

The outing was able to raise over $1,100 for the Minnow Fund, which will be added to the Club’s Minnow Fund account for donation to the ODNR next spring.

Thank you all for the tremendous support.

Below are some pictures from the event.  The one with the special background might have been in reaction to the author of this note checking out the backgrounds on some fish caught the prior weekend.  Bob was puzzled about how long it was taking me to look at his pictures.
